For me, my first film, "Roti Kapda Romance," is like "Student No. 1". In the future, I too will make films like "RRR". I have such stories with me. But give a debut director a chance to stand, give space to small films. Give opportunities to films from here... Due to lack of other films, "Amaran" is still playing here. "Roti Kapda Romance" is directed by Vikram Reddy and features Harsha Narra, Sandeep Saroj, Tarun, Supraj Ranga, Sonu Thakur, Nuvveksha, Meghalekha, and Khushboo Choudhary as the lead actors. Bekkem Venugopal and Srujan Kumar Bojja jointly produced this film which is set to release on the 28th of this month. On this occasion, director Vikram Reddy shared the details of the film with the press.
What is your background?
I was born and brought up in Hyderabad. The reason for me to enter the film industry is my mother. She is my inspiration. Every Friday, she used to watch every film released with her lady gang. I used to go with my mother. That's how I developed a love for cinema unknowingly. Then I decided to enter the film industry no matter what. However, after seeing director Teja's name on the poster of the film "Chitram," I decided to become a director. After that, I tried a lot to enter the film industry. I tried to join as an assistant director with someone but couldn't. But with the advice given by Puri Jagannath, I stopped trying to join as an assistant and started watching movies. After gaining a grip on all the crafts in cinema, I started trying to direct. At that time, Bekkam Venugopal liked the story I narrated, and today I am in front of you as a director.
What kind of film is "Roti Kapda Romance"?
This is a youthful romantic entertainer with comedy and friendship. There are four love stories in this film. How did the lives of four boys change after four girls entered their lives? What is their realization after a love breakup? This is the film with all emotions mixed in a perfect entertainer. The climax scenes of the film will touch everyone's hearts for fifteen minutes. Everyone will connect to this film.
Did you make any changes to the story?
First, Dil Raju was supposed to do this film. However, he asked me to make changes to the story. Those changes would have affected my story a lot. That's why I didn't agree. After that, I didn't make any changes to the story.
Wouldn't it have been good to do a film under a producer like Dil Raju? Didn't it feel risky to do a film by rejecting him?
Whether it's right or wrong, I have to do it myself. I don't believe in becoming a director somehow with some film. I am a critic of my own story. Such is my confidence in the story. Raju garu also welcomed this. Not only that, Dil Raju also gave the title "Roti Kapda Romance" to my film.
What is your confidence in yourself?
My stories are very big. I started my career by imagining the best film in my career. My ultimate goal is to do a multi-starrer film with Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan. I will work hard for that. I also have a story ready for both of them.
Were any real-life incidents an inspiration for this film's story?
The inspiration for this film is what I saw with my own eyes and the incidents that happened in my friends' lives. It's very difficult to do four different love stories like this. The talent of the director comes out only when making such films. Everyone who has already seen this film has appreciated that it's not made like a new director's film.
What certificate did the censor board give, saying that there is too much romance?
They gave an A certificate to this film. The film is very natural. Some scenes are as they are. That's when the film will have that vibe. The romance in this film is not over the top. You will get a good kick after experiencing this film.
The film is getting positive feedback. Didn't it feel risky to release it at this time?
We had to take the risk of this release date because we sold all the rights of the film in advance. We changed the release date several times due to lack of theaters. We changed the dates with the advice given by ETV Win and the distributors. The film industry has given positive feedback. We decided on this date so that the film reaches everyone. However, my only request to the film industry is to give space to small films here. Every director doesn't make "RRR" as his first film. Rajamouli's first film was also a small film like "Student No. 1". After that, he made great films like "Baahubali" and "RRR". I will also make a film like "RRR". I have such stories. However, what is needed here is to give space and support. Now, due to lack of other films, "Amaran" is playing. If they had given space to release my film, half of its collections would have come to my film. They don't even give space to our films there. I request everyone to save our cinema here.
What is your next film?
I spent sleepless nights after this journey started. I wrote 15 stories in these seven years during the journey of this film. My next film will be decided after this film.
You gave a statement that you will not make films if the film is not good?
If even one person says this film is not good, I will retire from films. This film is like my baby. Such is my confidence in this film. If ten people come, watch it, and say it's not good, I will retire. Multiplex theaters will become mass theaters with my film.
