In what is being seen as a candid admission of the film production business in Bollywood, noted director and producer of the famous Dharma productions banner Karan Johar, recently revealed how the profits from a film are divided in Bollywood involving various stakeholders.
In films where a high-profile actor is involved, a large sum goes to the lead actor, while a smaller amount is taken by the director while the producer gets his share the last. In cases where a high-profile director works on a project, the director takes away more and again the producer gets the last share.
Johar also added in a media interview recently that it is easier to negotiate with distributors than actors. This explains why when films succeed in Bollywood, the producer doesn’t benefit much. Karan has been facing a lot of flak after SSR’s death and he recently quit Twitter after non-stop trolling.
