SP Charan, the son of singer SP Balasubramaniam, has resolved to drag the makers of last year's comedy caper 'Keedaa Cola' to court. He is resorting to legal action against director Tharun Bhascker and others for using the Artificial Intelligence-generated voice of SPB in the movie.
As per copyright laws, the consent of the concerned person's family members has to be taken (if the artist is not alive) if his voice is used in any form for commercial purposes. If everything goes well for SP Charan, the makers of the Telugu film will have to shell out Rs 1 Cr in damages to him.
The copyright laws are weak in India. Also, the legal process is a punishment. It is going to be a long legal fight for both parties involved if there is no out-of-court amicable settlement. Recently, we have seen how it took six years for the 'Srimanthudu' copyright issue to come to a conclusion.
'Keedaa Cola' starred Tharun Bhascker, Brahmanandam, Chaitanya Rao, Rag Mayur, Jeevan Kumar and others. The film had music by Vivek Sagar. The film was presented by Suresh Productions. It has been streaming successfully on Aha.
