The Telugu film industry has now become the pride of Indian cinema. The Tollywood filmdom proved that Bahubali franchise was not just a one film wonder but in fact the industry can churn the best of the best hits to enthrall pan India audience.
1. RRR
RRR is an epic action-drama film directed by S. S. Rajamouli, who has written the film along with his father V. Vijayendra Prasad and produced by D. V. V. Danayya of DVV Entertainment. The film stars N. T. Rama Rao Jr., Ram Charan, Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, Shriya Saran, Samuthirakani, Ray Stevenson, Alison Doody and Olivia Morris in lead roles and it simply enthralled the audience like never before.
Although based on the fictional script of real time freedom fighters Alluri Sitaramaraju and Komaram Bheem, the movie raked in massive collections in all language versions. It has also been a rage world over. The film earned Rs. 1,200 crore (US$175.47 million) worldwide, creating several box-office records for an Indian film, which also includes the record for fourth-highest-grossing Indian film and the second highest grossing Telugu film worldwide.
2. Karthikeya 2
Karthikeya 2, also known as Karthikeya 2: Daivam Manushya Rupena is a mystery action-adventure film written and directed by Chandoo Mondeti. The film was a sequel to the 2014 film Karthikeya and stars Nikhil Siddhartha, Anupama Parameswaran, and Anupam Kher.
The film produced by Abhishek Agarwal Arts and People Media Factory was a surprise hit in the North belt too, surpassing Aamir Khan’s Lal Singh Chadda and Akshay Kumar’s Rakshabandhan in popularity. Pan Indian audiences were in awe, especially as they loved the script revolving around Lord Krishna, astounding divine elements, cinematography and exotic locations.
3. Sita Ramam
Sita Ramam is a period romance film written and directed by Hanu Raghavapudi. Produced by Vyjayanthi Movies and Swapna Cinema, the film stars the Bollywood beauty Mrunal Thakur (her Telugu debut) and Dulquer Salmaan as the main leads while Rashmika Mandanna and Sumanth played supporting roles.
The movie made with a modest budget of 30 crores fetched more than 100 crores and it was a hit in other versions too, apart from Telugu. The fresh making, riveting story and Dulquer Salman’s fan following added to the film’s success. It won both critical and commercial acclaim.
4. Major
Major is a biographical action film directed by Sashi Kiran Tikka while the story and screenplay was by Adivi Sesh. Based on the life of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, martyred in the 2008 Mumbai attacks, the film features Sesh as Unnikrishnan while Prakash Raj, Sobhita Dhulipala, Saiee Manjrekar, Revathi, Murali Sharma, and Anish Kuruvilla played supporting roles. Superstar Mahesh Babu was one of the film’s producers.
The movie enhanced the image of Adivi Sesh and made him closer to North Indian audience while there have been decent collections in all versions where it was released.
