Top 5 Highest Grossing Telugu Films Of 2022
The year 2022 has seen the first fledged releases for the first time after back to back lockdowns in 2020 and 2021. Let’s look at the top five highest grossing Telugu films of this year, as the countdown begins and a new year is round the corner.
1. RRR
The film directed by ace filmmaker Rajamouli starring young tiger NTR and mega powerstar Ram Charan in lead roles was clearly the show stealer this year. The film bankrolled by DVV Entertainment was a massive hit earning record collections of ₹1,200 crores (US$150 million).
It was a milestone in the career of the lead actors which also starred Bollywood names like Alia Bhatt, Ajay Devgn, Shriya Saran and others in lead roles. It once again highlighted the mettle of Telugu cinema which has captured pan India attention over the last decade and massive worldwide fan following too. The fictional movie based on historical characters lightened the dampened spirits of film goers, who were unhappy with lockdowns and only OTT releases.
2. Sarkaru Vaari Paata
The Mahesh Babu and Keerthy Suresh starrer Sarkaru Vaari Paata proved the successful streak of prince Mahesh Babu once again with the film becoming the second highest grossing one in 2022. The masses and class audience equally lapped up the film since its concept of bad loans and loan recovery appealed to many in the society.
Produced by Mythri Movie Makers, 14 Reels Plus and G. Mahesh Babu Entertainment it earned around 190 crores to 230 crores worldwide. The film was a treat to Mahesh’s fans and it was interesting to see Keerthy Suresh don a glamorous role which she carried with aplomb.
3. Bheemla Nayak
The Pawan Kalyan and Rana Daggubati starrer film produced by Sithara Entertainments was a show stealer for diehard fans of Pawan Kalyan and a welcome change towards more multi starrer films. The movie grossed around 170 to 190 crores worldwide and it is a remake of Malayalam movie Ayyapanum Koshiyum.
It was remade with Telugu nativity and other elements suited for our audience. Although the film earned mixed reviews, commercially it has been a successful venture. The screenplay provided by Trivikram added more hype to this movie, where dialogues played a critical role in lighting up many scenes. Another highlight was the stupendous performance from Rana.
4. Radhe Shyam
Radhe Shyam is a period romantic drama film written and directed by Radha Krishna Kumar. Produced by UV Creations and T-Series, the film was shot simultaneously in Telugu and Hindi languages and starred Prabhas and Pooja Hegde in lead roles. The movie marked the comeback of Darling Prabhas in a romantic role after a long time.
The movie revolved around the role of protagonist Vikramaditya, a palmist, who faces a conflict between destiny and his love for the leading lady Prerana. Although commercially it was expected to do much more, it earned about 160 crores to 210 crores, becoming a safe venture.
5. F3: Fun and Frustration
The film with an ensemble cast starring Venkatesh and Varun Tej in key roles was a sequel to F2, released in 2019. The comedy treat was received well by the audience. There was a huge expectation from the movie directed by Anil Ravipudi.
Although the real comedy similar to the prequel was slightly missing, nevertheless comedy timing was the highlight with non-stop funny scenes tickling the funny bone of movie goers. The film earned around 130 crores and audience gave thumbs up to this multi starrer comedy drama.
