More than three decades after it changed the face of Indian cinema, Nagarjuna and Ram Gopal Varma’s legendary cult classic ‘SHIVA’ is ready to roar back onto the big screen. This time, the landmark film returns with completely remastered sound in Dolby Atmos and stunning 4K visuals, offering audiences an experience like never before.
The first re-release teaser has already been attached to COOLIE, which hits theatres on 14th August, giving moviegoers an early taste of the new soundscape of Shiva. The remastering marks a major technical milestone as the film’s original mono soundtrack has been transformed into a multi-dimensional Dolby Atmos mix using cutting-edge AI audio engineering.
Originally produced by Annapurna Studios, Shiva redefined Telugu and Indian cinema with its raw storytelling, gritty realism, and revolutionary action sequences. It smashed box office records upon release, earned glowing critical acclaim, and cemented its position among CNN-IBN’s Top 100 Indian Films of All Time.
This historic re-release also coincides with Annapurna Studios’ 50th anniversary celebrations, making the occasion even more special.
Speaking about the revival, Akkineni Nagarjuna shared,
“Shiva gave me the iconic hero image and made my character unforgettable. It’s still one of the most talked-about films across generations. My brother Venkat Akkineni and I wanted to present it in the grandest way possible for both fans who love it and the younger audience who may have only watched it online. Along with RGV, we’ve ensured this edition delivers an unprecedented Dolby Atmos sound experience with vivid 4K visuals.”
Director Ram Gopal Varma added,
“The faith Nagarjuna and the producers placed in me back then is what took Shiva to great heights. Even today, people remember its scenes and characters vividly. Annapurna Studios’ decision to bring it back excites me hugely. Though the original audio was widely appreciated, it was important to match today’s technical standards. With advanced AI, we’ve converted the mono track into a fully immersive Dolby Atmos mix. Viewers may have seen Shiva before — but they’ve never experienced it like this.”
With its freshly re-engineered sound, visual restoration, and timeless narrative, the re-release of Shiva is set to reintroduce a masterpiece to theatres — captivating old fans and thrilling a whole new generation.
