If it’s a film coming from Adivi Sesh, there’s got to be substance, twist and content. That’s the expectation he has set lately. As expected, his latest offering ‘Hit 2’ came in with huge expectations so let us see if it has ‘hit’ the mark indeed.
Story
KD (Sesh) is an unconventional cop in Vizag with a razor sharp brain and though his tactics are not by the book, he gets the job done.
The love of his life is Arya (Meenakshi) who is part of a women welfare organization. Life goes smooth for KD until the time they discover the head of a girl Sanjana while the rest of the body is parts of different women.
KD is assigned the task of nabbing the culprit who seems to be a serial killer. His investigations discover further shocks and they are connected to the organization Arya is a part of. Who is the killer? What is his motive? Is KD successful in catching him? All this forms the rest of the story.
Cast:
Adivi Sesh carries the role well on his shoulders and he has the right swag of a cop. His body language fits the bill and he did justice.
Meenakshi is elegant and has a cute smile, she did the role as required with no surprises.
Komalee made a strong presence felt and she has a significant impact. Suhaas was brief but good. Rao Ramesh, Harsha Vardhan and the rest were just fillers.
Crew:
The top marks go to the background score by John Stewart and a song by MM Srilekha. Cinematography was good with capturing of the visuals and the angles. It brought the right tone for a crime thriller. Editing was crisp but could have been sharp in the second half. The production values were decent.
Hits
. Sesh’s performance
. Genre
. Background score
. First half
. Gripping narrative
Misses
. Lack of twists in the second half
. Not enough realism especially during action episodes
Deeper Look:
For some reason, the Telugu industry has never forayed into experimental mode and it takes special guts and nerve to come up with a theme based on serial killers. Here, the director certainly had the story written well but it is also about getting it onto the screen in the same engaging manner.
It appears Sesh was more of an actor in this project and didn’t put his pen to work. Contrastingly, the audience tends to expect some punch when he is part of a project and that too of this genre.
While the first half takes off in the right momentum with sufficient hooks, the second half was unable to take it to the next level.
Most importantly, the protagonist is not challenged enough by the antagonist during the second half and most of the show is one-sided leading to that lack of nail biting excitement.
Yet, the climax had its share of surprises and though the film didn’t have a wow feel to it, the impact and effect remains as one walks out of the theatre. Overall, it is good to see ‘Hit’ becoming more of a franchisee and Telugu screens witnessing such offbeat storylines.
Nani appears on screen in the last scene as the protagonist in Hit, The Third Case.
VoxVerdict: Hits Hard
