Hyderabad police were particularly aggressive with their drunk and drive check campaigns earlier. But as is the case with most drives, they slowed down later.
In the recent past, the number of drunk and drive incidents has been on the rise with the most recent being at Raidurgam which is bringing more pressure on Hyderabad Police to hold more such drives in the future.
Coming to the incident, in a severe incident early this morning, a speeding car jumped a red signal and collided with a bike in the Raidurgam area of Hyderabad, causing serious injuries to two individuals. The incident occurred at around six o'clock at Dargah Square and was captured on CCTV.
The car, reportedly driven by software employees under the influence of alcohol, was heading from Raidurg towards Mehdipatnam at high speed when the accident took place. Locals who witnessed the incident informed the authorities that the car was driven recklessly.
The driver, a software employee, has been detained by the Raidurgam Police. Two other software employees were also in the car at the time of the accident but managed to flee the scene. The victims, identified as Kantha Rao and Satyanarayana, sustained critical injuries and are currently in a coma.
