In a significant development, Rajendra Sadashiv Nikalje, famously known as Chhota Rajan, has been handed a life sentence along with a fine of Rs. 16 lakh by the Ld. Special Judge at the MCOCA Court, Mumbai, in connection with the murder of hotelier Jaya Sesu Shetty.
The case, initially investigated by the Gamdevi Police Station, Mumbai, under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act, saw a major shift when the Government of Maharashtra and Government of India transferred a total of 71 cases related to Chhota Rajan to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), including the murder of Jaya Shetty.
According to the FIR, the incident occurred when two unidentified assailants entered Hotel Golden Crown, Mumbai, and shot Jaya Sesu Shetty. The motive behind the attack was purportedly linked to Shetty's alleged failure to comply with extortion demands.
