As per election strategist Prashant Kishor, Narendra Modi's interviews used to garner 5 million social media views on average in 2019, whereas the number stands at just 1 million in 2024. Is this a sign of Modi's declining popularity, by any chance?
While Congress supporters would like to believe that the PM's popularity is over (especially because Dhruv Rathee's videos are far more popular), the truth could be something else. Modi has been a two-term PM, whose views about various subjects are well-known to the public. So, there is nothing much that the social media-savvy voter needs to know about him.
Secondly, Modi rarely gave interviews in 2019. This time, he is competing with Prashant Kishor to give the maximum number of interviews. He even let Tamil and Telugu TV channels interview him.
Thirdly, as a social media user with the name Resplendent Rose points out, Modi's interview videos have been increasingly uploaded on multiple channels and sent out as bytes on WhatsApp by lakhs of users to their friends/relatives. The penetration of WhatsApp has been on a different level this time.
Another Netizen says that he is a Modi fan who has stopped watching his interviews because of the familiarity. "I instead watch Yogi's speeches at political rallies more," he says.
