BJP is the most-preferred party among among LGBTQ+, says poll

A gay dating app has conducted a poll on political party preferences among LGBTQ+ users in India. About 2,500 gays and lesbians, among others, participated in the online poll from April 17-25. As per the social media handles of the app, the BJP is preferred by about half of the sexual minorities in the country.

Here are the figures:

BJP: 50.9% (1,094 votes)
INC: 25.6% (551 votes)
AAP: 3.4% (72 votes)
DMK: 3.2% (69 votes)
AITC: 1.3% (27 votes)
Others: 15.6% (337 votes)

Defence commentator Abhijit Iyer Mitra stated that BJP is more popular in the LGBTQ+ community than in the general public. "Please don’t go by the loud 'community activists' who have usurped 'representing' the community for their own financial gains," he added.

Psephologist Yashwant Deshmukh endorsed the poll for having a good sample. "Amazingly close to the representative sample done in pre-poll trackers. This shows the community is much assimilated with the mainstream on political choices. Very different indeed from what it is perceived from the Western perspective, or in other Western democracies," he added.
