Lok Sabha polls: 108 old senior citizen comes to vote in West Bengal

A rare occurrence took place in West Bengal during its first phase of elections. A 108-year-old elector braving the heat, overcoming each and every obstacle coming her way, came to the polling station to cast her vote and be part of the festival of Democracy in Cooch Behar district, West Bengal.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission has ensured minimum facilities like water, shed, toilets, ramps, volunteers, wheelchairs, and electricity were in place to ensure that every voter, including elderly and persons with disabilities, could cast their vote with ease.
Earlier EC informed that there are over 14.14 lakh registered 85+ years old and 13.89 lakh PwD voters in 102 parliamentary constituencies who have been provided the option to vote from the comfort of their homes. The optional Home Voting facility is already receiving tremendous appreciation and response.

For those among 85 + and PwD voters, who decide to come to polling stations were also provided with all facilities like pick and drop facility, signages, braille signage on EVM, volunteers and others.
