Senior journalist Rajdeep Sardesai is a familiar name to anyone who keeps up with national news in English. His wife, Sagarika Ghose, has recently been nominated to the Rajya Sabha from the TMC.
In a submission made to the Income Tax Department, Sardesai declared that he made over Rs 4.5 Cr in 2019. This must not be confused with his salary income alone. It is salary income plus profits he made from his investments. Sardesai had a stake in the news channel CNN-IBN.
A Twitter user named Aditya Jakki opines that Sardesai deserves high pay. "He single-handedly generates most revenues for India Today during his election day coverages. He is still by far the best election-day anchor in India whatever his bias maybe, especially after the total collapse of Pronnoy Roy and his team in the last few years."
A significant portion of social media-savvy consumers, particularly those aligned with the BJP, have harbored a longstanding dislike for Sardesai. They express the sentiment that Sardesai's substantial earnings, coupled with what they perceive as "propaganda against the Modi government," reflect poorly on the state of the media. Nevertheless, opinions on the matter vary, and individuals hold their own perspectives.
