A pro-Kannada outfit named Kannada Raksha Vedhike today resorted to vandalism demanding that all businesses and enterprises in Bengaluru must put nameplates in Kannada. ANI has reported some of them damaging private property in the name of pushing their demand. Although the news agency described it as a "protest", the visuals convey a different story altogether.
The visuals are disturbing. Many Netizens have reacted saying that such lawlessness will scare away investors. Social media user Ajay Rotti wrote, "You want businesses to display in Kannada, do that. There is a way to do that. It is not done by destroying and causing losses to businesses. These goons must be asked to run a business and earn the hard way. They will realise the value of hard earned money." Senior journalist Alok Mishra tweeted, "Sad and sorry state of a state known for IT, international business offices and tech-heads of the country. Yes, you can protest and 'demand' things as per your whims. This is certainly not one of the possible ways. Create panic and investors might look a different way."
Language chauvinism has been there in States like Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Political analysts say that it is encouraged by some political parties.
