Rahul Gandhi gets interim relief from SC. It is known that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi landed in trouble for his comment "Why all thieves have Modi surname" in a political rally during elections and repeating the same multiple times. Following this the Gujarat High Court hearing the complaint, convicted Rahul Gandhi in the criminal defamation case, After this judgment, Lok Sabha Secretariat disqualified Rahul Gandhi as the MP.

Congress Party approached the Supreme Court against the Gujarat High Court. order and today, The Supreme Court bench com rising of Justices BR Gavai, PS Narasimha, and PV Sanjay Kumar, which heard Rahul Gandhi’s plea, noted that the trial court had not given reasons for awarding him the maximum punishment of two years. It then stayed his conviction in the case.

The apex court said the offense punishable under sections 498 and 499 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) is a maximum of two years or a fine or both. It added that only because the maximum sentence was awarded, provisions of the Representation of People Act came into play and he was disqualified. The bench said the provision would not have been attracted had the sentence been a day lesser.

Right after the verdict, the Congress party burst into celebrations and now analysts say Rahul Gandhi's suspension would be revoked by the Loksabha Secretariat and he would attend the Parliament on Monday. Court however observed that Rahul Gandhi's statement on 'All Modis are criminals' are not in good taste and asked him to be careful in future.
