Bengal elections: 11 dead as Mamata Banerjee keeps mum

The ongoing local body polls in West Bengal are witnessing unprecedented scenes of violence in recent times. As per national media reports, as many as 11 people have been killed today during the ongoing panchayat polls.

The BJP, which is the second strongest political party in the State, has accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's TMC of unleashing violence to scare away opponents. "TMC goons openly brandish a gun and threaten an independent candidate in Barrackpore, North 24 Parganas. No one knows how many more will die through the day. The State Election Commissioner and Mamata Banerjee are responsible for this bloodshed. They didn’t deploy CAPF," wrote BJP spokesperson Amit Malviya.

As per the BJP, as many as 37 people have died so far from the date Panchayat polls were notified in West Bengal.

A few Twitter handles shared the video of a person running away with a ballot box as the polls were still on, on Saturday.
