Gannavaram: Kamma segregation to cost Vamsi?

The Gannavaram constituency could see one of the most fierce electoral battles in Andhra Pradesh in the coming election as TDP fielded Yarlagadda Venkata Rao who was earlier with YCP, and the Jagan-led YCP fielded Vallabhaneni Vamsi who in turn was with TDP earlier.

Vallabhaneni Vamsi previously won this segment twice as a TDP candidate, is now contesting from the YSRCP. He maintains strong grassroots connections and actively interacts with the cadre.

With charisma and a unique individual image in the segment, he excels in political strategy. However, his switch to the YSRCP has not been universally embraced within the party, encountering opposition from many members. His remarks on opposition leaders have tarnished his image, especially among his own community voters. Additionally, facing anti-incumbency sentiment due to his consecutive wins poses a challenge for his campaign.

The TDP candidate previously ran under the YSRCP banner in 2019 but narrowly lost by a margin of 838 votes (0.4% vote share). His past election setback have garnered sympathy and support from voters.

He has consistently opposed the current MLA, which has helped him cultivate a loyal following in the segment. He has established a positive reputation through charitable initiatives and has strong ties with both YSRCP and TDP cadres. Moreover, he has rectified past mistakes made during the 2019 elections, which works in his favor.

Adding to that, the Kamma segregation to defeat Vamsi at any cost might cost Vamsi his place in the electoral roll so he is likely to face a tough situation here. Vamsi's own image and Jagan Mohan Reddy's mass wave must save him in the best case scenario.
