Now YSRCP sources are discussing intensely as to whether their leader, CM Jagan will let Modi dictate terms. It is known that PM Modi and the ruling BJP at the centre is planning to intrude the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in this session of the Parliament. Modi has taken it as a prestigious issue as Uniform Civil code is one of the promise it made to the people before the 2019 elections and ahead of the 2024 elections, he wants to fulfill it.
Modi government can pass the law easily in the Lok Sabha where it has full majority on its own but in Rajya Sabha it needs the support of some opposition parties. Many opposition parties are against the Uniform Civil Code and Modi is looking towards CM Jagan and his YSRCP.
During his Delhi visit Modi released many funds to the state of AP and in return he told Jagan to support the bill in the Rajya Sabha. But YSRCP leaders feel that supporting the Uniform Civil Code will sound a deathknell to the party as it has strong base among Muslims and they will get aleniated if the party supports the bill.
Some YSRCP leaders are confiding in private that they took Modi easily but now he is trying to muscle by dictating terms. The question is how will Jagan handle the situation.
