We are not happy with 135 seats in Karnataka: Congress leader

Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar said today that he and CM-in-waiting Siddaramaiah are unhappy despite the more than 135 seats the Congress party secured in the recent Assembly elections. "I am not happy. Our next target is the Lok Sabha elections and we must fight well," the soon-to-be Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka said.

The Congress party will win at least 20 Lok Sabha seats in the 2024 General Elections if its performance in the Assembly elections is anything to go by. Karnataka has got 28 seats.

However, political commentators say that Congress might not win more than 8-10 seats in Lok Sabha elections owing to a decisive Modi factor. Karnataka has always voted in favour of the BJP since 2004 in the LS elections. Even in 2009, when the Congress wave swept many parts of the country, BJP won 19 seats there. Last time, in 2019, the saffron party polled more than 51% of VS and won 25 seats.

In 2024, the Modi wave will mean that BJP will secure 45% of the vote share.
