"We have given MUDRA loans, LPG connections, Kisan Samman Nidhi benefits and housing benefits to Muslims disproportionate to their population." This has been claimed and highlighted by BJP leaders many times. Today's Karnakata election results prove that the BJP's attempts to woo Muslim voters have failed spectacularly.
As per early election analyses, Muslims voted strategically to defeat BJP in Karnataka. A good percentage of Muslims used to vote in JD(S) instead of Congress. This time, they voted for Congress believing that a vote split will only benefit the BJP.
There is another angle. PM Modi has in the past said that Pasmanda Muslims, who are economically and socially backward, need to be uplifted. This is an attempt to drive a wedge between Pasmanda and non-Pasmanda Muslims, although there is a genuine need to uplift backward Muslims. However, Pasmandas don't seem to trust the saffron party.
BJP supporters are of the view that Modi must now change the strategy somehow.
