The Congress party, as part of its social justice plank, is committed to increasing the reservation limit from 50% to 75%. This is what former Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah said on Wednesday.
In keeping with Rahul Gandhi's recent statement that OBCs must be given an increased share of the quota system, Siddaramaiah promised to increase reservations to all castes based on their population. By "all castes", he means reserved groups, not forward castes.
The ramifications of his utterance will become clear in the coming days, as the election fever grips Karnataka.
As per some polls, Congress is ahead of BJP. Yet others have found out that BJP is ahead of Congress. Either way, neither of the parties is going to win absolute majority, pollsters are predicting.
