Three men in their twenties, Sunny Singh, Arun Maurya, and Lovelesh Towari, who killed gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf while they were being escorted by the police, have been moved from Naini jail in Prayagraj to Pratapgarh jail in Uttar Pradesh due to security concerns.

Intelligence inputs suggested that there could be an attack on them in Naini jail. The men, in their twenties, wanted to make a name for themselves by eliminating Ahmed's gang. They were sent to judicial custody for 14 days after appearing in court over the weekend.

The Uttar Pradesh government has formed a three-member judicial inquiry committee, which has been given two months to submit a report on the killings. The incident was caught on live television. The state police have also formed two special investigating teams to probe the incident.

The assailants, who had posed as journalists, shouted slogans of 'Jai Shri Ram' after the killings and surrendered to the police. They were found to have carried fake media ID cards, a microphone, and a camera. Lovelesh, one of the assailants, was hit by a bullet on his foot and is currently in hospital.

Atiq and Ashraf were buried in their village in Prayagraj after a post-mortem on Sunday. Their son and nephew, Asad Ahmed, was killed in an encounter with the police in Jhansi district a few days before the incident.
