Love Story Loses Its Way

'Alanaati Ramachandrudu', produced by Hyniva Creations' Hymavathi Jadapolu and Sreeram Jadapolu, is playing in theatres. Telugu Vox presents its review of the movie.

Storyline:

Siddhu (Krishna Vamsi) is thrown into despair when he discovers that Dharani (Mokksha), his childhood sweetheart, is in love with another guy. Just when he plans to withdraw himself into a shell, poetic intervention incentivizes him to spend 24 hours with Dharani. What does he do in this limited period of time? Why does he develop pangs of guilt? Is there a resolution for it?

Performances:

The entire film hinges on the chemistry shared by Krishna Vamsi and Mokksha. This is an out-and-out romantic drama without an antagonist. So, it was gutsy of Krishna Vamsi to make his acting debut with a story that challenged him to the core. Speaking of guts, he is in the same league as Naveen Chandra and Rahul Ravindran from the 'Andala Rakshasi' days. Except that his acting is far from convincing. Mokksha, in contrast, looks far more confident.

Brahmaji, although dead soon enough, has his presence in the life of his daughter Dharani throughout the film. Venkatesh Kakumanu, the college clown, has so much potential. One wonders why he is not getting enough roles.

Technical Departments:

Cinematographer Prem Sagar and Music Director Sashank Tirupati complement each other's works. 'Alanaati Ramachandrudu' has no great music; yet the treatment makes the songs feel good. The lyrics add to the poetic value. The songs make up for the lack of deep drama in several stretches.

Merits:

1. Good songs and profound lyrics.

2. The dialogues in the scenes that matter. Otherwise, the so-called hilarious lines are embarrassingly outdated.

3. A good portion of the first half.

Demerits:

1. Contrived screenplay involving Dharani.

2. The entire second half.

3. Siddhu's characterization feels gimmicky after a point.

4. The climax is templated.

Vox Verdict:

'Alanaati Ramachandrudu', directed by Chilukuri Akash Reddy, takes off on a good note. It has a fairly watchable first half. However, the second half is meandering.
