The landslide tragedy in the Wayanad district of Kerala has been a national calamity. The catastrophe has claimed over 280 lives, with many more injured. The National Disaster Relief Fund, the Army, and several civil society organizations, including the RSS, have been engaged in relief activities.
Moved by the tragedy, Tamil actors Suriya, Karthik and Jyothika have come forward to donate a sum Rs. 50 lakhs to the Kerala CM Relief Fund. They also send their deepest condolences to the families and people of Kerala.
In a statement, Suriya said that his thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families. He described the tragedy as heartbreaking. "Respects to all members of Government agencies and people on the field helping the families with rescue operations," Suriya wrote. The actor awaits the release of 'Kanguva' on October 10 this year. His brother, actor Karthi, will be seen in 'Meiyazhagan' on September 27 this year.
