Dhanush's 'Raayan' arrives: Find out what critics are saying

'Raayan' was released today in theatres in both Telugu and Tamil. What are the early reviews saying? They are mostly positive.

Renowned film critic Bharadwaj Rangan said that 'Raayan', written and directed by Dhanush himself, is an example of how "good writing, staging, and spot-on casting can elevate the most templated material". He also added, "What makes the film feel fresh is the emphasis on family and how small traumas can shape our actions."

Most of the reviews have stated that the interval bang is top-notch.

AR Rahman's music has particularly come in for wholesome praise. "AR Rahman amplifies this tension with his score that captures the constant darkness and dread," a review opined.

SJ Suryah, Prakash Raj and Sundeep Kishan feature in different roles.

"Dhanush has come out with a raw, intense, emotional and deadly film which keeps you on the edge of the seat till the last frame," wrote Sreedhar Pillai, showering handsome praises on the raw action thriller.

Writing the film's synopsis, ToI said, "Three brothers and their sister come to the city for their survival, and get caught up in a violent world of gangsters, cops and betrayals."

The Hindu said that Dhanush attempts to turn an "ordinary story into something more with a well-written setting and measured storytelling."
