'Baahubali: Crown of Blood' streams on OTT: What are film critics saying?

'Baahubali: Crown of Blood', the animated series, is currently available for streaming on Disney Plus Hotstar. Produced by SS Rajamouli, Sharad Devarajan, and Shobhu Yarlagadda, the series is neither a sequel nor a prequel. The series comprises nine episodes. Most of the episodes are about 20-22 minutes long. The first two episodes are the lengthiest.

In its review, Times of India opined that the series "onerously carries the equity of the two Baahubali films on its shoulders and ups the scale on many counts—especially in heroism." The review, which was largely positive, added that the action-heavy plot begins immediately but the drama takes some time to capture the viewer's attention.

The Hindu gave a negative review, saying that the series "overtly relies on familiar tropes and holds fewer surprises." It added that the series "delves into events that happened before the film, in which Baahubali (Prabhas) and Bhallaladeva (Rana Daggubati) come together to fight an enemy and in the process, discover dark secrets." The review revealed that the characters of Devasena and Avantika have no place in the series since this story pre-dates 'Baahubali: The Beginning'.

India Today opined that the show lacks new ideas. "The show drowns in predictability and lacks new surprises," the review added.
