The film industry in India has become corporatized under several banners and new production houses taking up professional ways of film making with innovative investors and management professionals looking after every aspect of making a film.

Here’s a surprise announcement recently from the Hombale Films founder Vijay Kiragandur who has announced that their production company is planning to invest about 3,000 crores over the five years in India’s film industry.  Hombale Films bankrolled the recent super hits 'KGF' franchise and 'Kantara' and believes that the entertainment industry is only set to grow more. The banner has plans to produce around five to six films which also include one event-based film. Currently their plans include making movies in all south languages.

The banner is aiming to make something which would cater to a global audience, yet rooted in our tradition and culture, in the process appealing to the younger generation and contributing towards the Indian economy. The main objective will involve reaching out to a wider audience through culturally rooted stories.

Hombale is a Bangalore-based production house which is all set to hire writers and filmmakers even from the Hindi film industry. Their upcoming projects include pan-India Prabhas-starrer Salaar which is gearing up for a release on September 28. The action-adventure project is directed by Prashanth Neel.  Other projects include the multilingual film Dhoomam, Kannada action film Bagheera and Tamil movie Raghuthata with Keerthy Suresh.

It is notable to see new production houses investing more only in content-based films. Particularly after covid lockdown, the film industry has seen many tectonic shifts and a massive change in audience taste and flavour. Only production banners that can innovate and live up to the change can survive but not everyone. Moreover, there is no language barrier anymore and OTT platforms have ushered a new world of cinema in our living rooms. In fact, more such production houses are reportedly being planned by large corporate houses in India, which will be a boon to a new crop of writers, film makers as well as actors.

Overall, such huge investments will definitely be a boon to the film industry with more work, more revenue and new ways of entertaining the audience.
