'Kalki 2898 AD' has a dystopian background like 'Blade Runner'

'Kalki 2898 AD', which stars Prabhas in the lead, is slated to hit the screens on May 9. Of late, clarity about its precise genre has emerged. The Nag Ashwin-directed magnum opus has come to be described as an epic science-fiction dystopian film. To the extent that it is dystopian, it bears some resemblance to the 'Blade Runner' franchise from Hollywood, minus the neo-noir elements of 'Blade Runner 2049' released in 2017.

The makers have described Prabhas' movie as a fantasy fiction that starts in the Mahabharata period and takes multiple leaps to conclude six thousand years later. The film, with a pronounced Indian character, will conclude in the year 2898.

The film's dialogues have been written by Sai Madhav Burra, who recently said that something extraordinary and breathtaking has been attempted for the first time in Indian cinema. Santhosh Narayanan and Djordje Stojiljkovic are its music director and cinematographer, respectively. Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone and Disha Patani are playing different roles. Pasupathy and Saswata Chatterjee will also be seen. Edited by Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao, the film is produced by C Aswini Dutt of Vyjayanthi Movies.
