'Ooru Peru Bhairavakona' is slated to hit the screens on February 16. Director Vi Anand says that the film is a supernatural fantasy but it doesn't tell the story of an extraordinary man. When a thief gets embroiled himself in a village named Bhairavakonda, a series of mysteries confront him.
"Sundeep Kishan's character is not that of a superhero. There is a twist in the story. I want the audience to expect a fun ride. This is not a serious film. Even Kavya Thapar's character is light-veined. The comedy done by Viva Harsha and Vennela Kishore is downright funny," the director adds. Varsha Bollamma plays a commanding role in the film.
'OPBK' has paid premiers scheduled for February 14. But doesn't that risk the film's much-vaunted twist will be out in the public domain before the full-fledged theatrical release? "Let it happen. The buzz around the film will only go up if that happens," Anand says.
The director is aware that, these days, it is a miracle if a rom-com works in theatres. "Visual treats are what the audience are expecting these days. 'OPBK' was designed, right from Day 1, to please the audience with its stunning visuals. The VFX was planned to the T," Anand says, thanking producer Razesh Danda of Hasya Movies and Anil Sunkara of AK Entertainments for not compromising on quality.
"Although the film is inspired by some passages mentioned in the Garuda Puranam, the film is not based on real-life incidents. A few elements from the Puranam form the foundation for the story," Anand says.
"Our film caters to different age groups. The decision to release it in February is near-perfect. Every February has had a blockbuster down the years. We have seen films like 'Chalo' and 'DJ Tillu'," Anand says.
The Sid Sriram-crooned 'Nijame Ne Chebutunna' has bagged 100 million views so far. "I don't commence the shoot of my films unless I am armed with a blockbuster tune. Unless I have one, I am not energized. I also make sure that I have background tracks in place before the shoot," Anand says.
