OTT news: 'The Railway Men' on Netflix draws mixed reviews

'The Railway Men', is a four-episode mini-series currently streaming on Netflix. Starring Bollywood actor Kay Kay Menon, 'Rocketry' actor R Madhavan, and Babil Khan in lead roles, the series has been lauded by film critics.

The show chronicles the Bhopal Gas Tragedy of 1984 in narrating a poignant tale. "The effect wears off pretty soon," wrote Hindustan Times, praising the series for its "effective performances, diligent production design" and for telling an "impossible story of human courage".

"The story weaves in several sub-plots into the narrative, but not all of it lands well," wrote Rediff in its detailed review. At the same time, the review opined that the show makes for a "compelling watch because the subject is handled with seriousness and respect without going overboard with the dramatic impact."

Firstpost had mostly bouquets for the show. "Netflix one after the other is bringing out the human stories with so much brilliance. Recently ‘Kala Paani’ and now 'The Railway Men' shows the human struggle for survival in the toughest of situations... The writing of the show was crisp and the backstories were beautifully weaved in," the review said.
