Avatar 2 is all set to be released on December 16th ending a 13-year wait for fans, following the success of the first installment of Avatar. This sequel to James Cameron's record-breaking film will be taking the audiences back to Pandora and is expected to be another visually stunning movie, going by the first teaser and the main trailer.
The sequel started its shooting in 2017, but since the film is a mix of live-action and motion capture elements, it has taken this time. The first part collected about $3 billion and the budget itself this time is close to an astounding sum of $1 billion. The film has a running time of 3 hours ten minutes. The first miracle from the director was Titanic in the year 2007 which created a world-wide sensation. Then after a 13-year gap it was Avtar and now after another 13 years, the world acclaimed director is coming with his latest film.
There is already a lot of excitement for Avatar 2 with the potential opening collections itself set to be about $150 million to $175 million in the US alone. Zoe Saldaña is reprising the role of the Na'vi princess Neytiri, with Sam Worthington again playing the human-turned-Na'vi, Jake Sully. Stephen Lang is again back as the dead Colonel Miles Quaritch and the main villain. Kate Winslet is essaying the role of Ronal which will be her first collaboration with James Cameron after the 1997 blockbuster Titanic.
The sequel will introduce a Na'vi clan called the Metkayina, played by Fear the Walking Dead's Cliff Curtis as Tonowari. Jemaine Clement is also in the sequel as marine biologist Dr Ian Garvin though whom Cameron had described as one of his favourite characters.
The film will be released in many languages all over the world including English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam. The movie which once created a collection tsunami is being eagerly watched whether it will repeat the same feat again. It will be the same battle between Pandora and another clan and this time the film will be more in the water than extra terrestrial terrain.
In India, one major challenge would be to see whether the film will do its wonders at cinema given that our audience has now more or less become more addictive and comfortable with the OTT platform. At the same time, there is also an expectation that audiences won't miss watching such a visual wonder on the screens and definitely it would be a big hit if the script is interesting enough.
