SS Thaman's background score for 'Akhanda' is considered one of his best works. Many feel that the film owes its stupendous success to two factors: Balakrishna's characterization and Thaman's music. It had a pretty run-of-the-mill formula and pounding action otherwise. But for Thaman's BGM, 'Akhanda' wouldn't have become such a roaring hit.
However, in his latest interview, Boyapati said that 'Akhanda' would have delivered the same impact even if it was watched without the BGM.
Netizens are of the view that the director has thrown his music director under the bus. "It is such a thankless thing to do," a Twitter user wrote.
After 'Legend', Boyapati said that it was he who made Devi Sri Prasad work tirelessly for 13 days on BGM. At this, DSP got offended and snatched the mic from the director's hands. He then said at a crowded event, "Boyapati garu was there in the studio only for the last two days. Even then, he was watching Hollywood movies on his laptop. I don't need anybody's supervision to do my work."
