Abhishek Pictures is known for movies such as 'Ravanasura', 'Keshava' and 'Saakshyam'. The production house, run by Abhishek Nama, has also been into distribution. The most disastrous decision Nama took as a distributor was the distribution of 'World Famous Lover' in 2020. Directed by KS Rama Rao, the film was released in the month of February. Since 'Geetha Govindam' and 'Taxiwala' were hits, the buzz around Vijay was huge at that time. Yet, the movie failed to register even respectable openings. Nama's investment was wiped out to the tune of 90%.
Today, Abhishek Pictures took to social media and created a flutter by revealing that they lost Rs 8 Cr on 'World Famous Lover'. While sounding respectable, the banner actually laid the blame for the heavy loss at the doorsteps of Vijay. "We lost Rs 8 crores due to 'World Famous Lover'. When we tried to reach you at that time, nobody responded (to our calls)," the banner wrote, addressing the 'Arjun Reddy' actor.
The banner further wrote that Vijay on Monday pledged Rs 1 crore toward charity after the release of 'Kushi' and therefore, he should think of compensating the losses made by distributors and exhibitors because of 'World Famous Lover'.
