The film industry is a myriad circle where anything can happen and the best reference to that is the outcome of films at the box office. As part of that, there are those flicks which come in without any expectations and then emerge as winners. They are also known as the silent killers who catch the trade pundits off guard. The year 2022 saw few films like that and here is a list of the top five surprise hits.
1. DJ Tillu

This romantic crime comedy marked the debut of Vimal Krishna as the director and showed the acting prowess of Siddhu Jonnalagadda as the protagonist. Neha Shetty was the leading lady and the film was made at a decent budget of ten crores and ended up touching thirty crores. Despite mixed reviews, it became a success among the audience.
2. Ashoka Vanamlo Arjuna Kalyanam

This was yet another surprise success which gave the mass hero Vishwak Sen a different image. The romantic comedy was directed by Vidya Sagar Chinta and he was flanked by Ritika Naik and Rukshar Dhillon. The film didn’t have big names to speak of barring the main hero and yet the storyline, the comedy of errors, the technical values made it a right package for the audience, especially the youth.
3. Bimbisara

The fantasy action film came as a boost to the Telugu film industry as it explored a different genre and the storyline was rather interesting. At the same time, it also gave hero Nandamuri Kalyanram a long awaited hit. Despite the fact that the film came in okay expectations, the post release impact was quite good with positive reviews taking over. The film was made at a sizeable budget of 40 crores and yet it was able to get nearly 65 crores. The element of periodic era and the mix of today’s time worked well with the viewers.
4. Bangarraju

It has been quite a while since ‘King’ Akkineni Nagarjuna scored a decent hit and this film came in as a blessing to him. In a way, it also brought smiles to Yuva Samrat Naga Chaitanya who is also reeling under a spree of flops. This supernatural action drama film directed by Kalyan Krishna is a sequel to the film ‘Soggade Chinni Nayana’ which came in 2016. Though it released during the much expected Sankranthi time, the reviews were mixed. Yet, the numbers proved otherwise. The film was made at a budget of 25 crores and it touched a whopping 63.87 crores.
5. Oke Oka Jeevitham

Amidst the typical masala entertainers came this science fiction melodrama flick featuring Sharwanand, Amala Akkineni and an ensemble cast of talented actors. The film directed by Shree Karthick was produced as a bilingual in Telugu and Tamil and had the concept of time travel which excited the audience. This also gave Sharwa a much needed success. With no pre release hype and post release publicity, the film could manage to mint Rs 24 Cr at the box office.
