There was a time when the media used to satirize politicians and cinema through special shows. Things changed slowly in the 2000s when sensational reportage by 24/7 news channels started to be mocked openly by Telugu films.
With time, satire has been taken to the next level. In the latest instance, the makers of 'Rangabali' have brought out a promotional video in which comedian Satya is seen spoofing a senior journalist-cum-media proprietor, a senior cine journalist, producer-distributor-publisher Suresh Kondeti (known for putting occasionally offensive questions to film personalities), independent journo Jaffar, and TV9's Devi Nagavalli.
If Jaffar is portrayed as someone who normalizes rumours, Devi Nagavalli is portrayed as a combative host who shouts at her guests.
The media has utterly lost its respect in the eyes of the public. That explains why the promotional video has been lapped up by the audience.
