Prashant Neel's film franchise, KGF, has been a tremendous success, and it is doubtful that anyone other than him could have pulled it off. The first two installments of the movie have been highly successful in all the tinsel towns, including the original Kannada and Telugu versions, as well as the Hindi version. Despite this success, no one has thought of remaking it.
However, a new KGF film is in the works by the acclaimed director, Pa Ranjith. Surprisingly, the film is not a remake, but a new story set in KGF, with none other than the acting genius Vikram in the lead role. The teaser for the movie, titled Thangalaan, was released in October of last year.
Prashant Neel created the fictional character Rocky Bhai and took some creative liberties in his portrayal of KGF. In contrast, Pa Ranjith will be creating a realistic depiction of how KGF mines operated under British rule and the atrocities committed against Indian workers. KGF is situated on the border of Tamilnadu and Karnataka, and the Tamil Cholas have ruled the region for centuries.
Many Tamil customs, temples, and people of Tamil origin reside in KGF-related townships and places. Reports suggest that Pa Ranjith will be exploring the once-popular gold mines' history and the circumstances leading to their shutdown. It remains to be seen how audiences will respond to this version of KGF, which offers a different perspective on the iconic gold mines.
