The state of Karnataka is gearing up for the general elections, with various political parties making their game plans. While the AIMIM is also trying to make a mark in the polls, the main fight is expected to be between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress. However, the BJP is facing some issues in the state, which may impact their performance in the elections, according to experts.
Actress-turned-politician Sumalatha has extended her support to the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of the elections. She stated that she took the decision after consulting with her well-wishers and friends, and that she is supporting Modi for the work he is doing for the development of the region.
This has sparked a debate about Sumalatha joining the BJP, as the party had supported her during the Mandya elections against former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda's grandson. Sumalatha won the elections by a large margin, but has since faced issues from the JD(Secular) party. She reportedly wants to join the BJP for support, and her support for Modi is seen as a step in that direction.
The Karnataka BJP has stated that they are trying to make Sumalatha join the party, and if successful, it would be a big boost for the party in South Karnataka, where they are facing a tough time.
