Audacious Self-Release, 60 Minutes of VFX & Divine Conviction: Producer Madhu Kalipu on Mounting Mahendragiri Varahi on a Massive Canvas!

When corporate business acumen blends with unapologetic passion for cinema, audacious production decisions follow. Transitioning from successful ventures in banking, real estate, and automobiles into mainstream filmmaking, producer Madhu Kalipu (who previously backed the critically acclaimed Ranga Maarthaanda) is steering his grandest cinematic gamble yet: Mahendragiri Varahi.

Fronted by Sumanth and Aishwarya Rajesh, featuring a powerhouse cameo by Star Boy Siddu Jonnalagadda, and helmed by director Santhosh Jagarlapudi, the devotional action-thriller is produced jointly by Madhu Kalipu and Laxman under Rajasheyamala Entertainments and Bridge Films.

Ahead of the grand worldwide theatrical premiere on September 11, 2026, producer Madhu Kalipu met with journalists to break down their massive 900-screen self-distribution strategy, the technical marvel achieved inside Annapurna Studios, and how Goddess Varahi’s spiritual aura guided the film.

"From Sekhar Kammula’s Circle to a Multi-Starrer Epic": The Creative Genesis

Opening up about his transition into cinema and the birth of Mahendragiri Varahi, Madhu reflected on how organic connections paved the way:

*"I didn't come from a legacy film household. My introduction to Telugu cinema started during 'Happy Days' through my close friendship with Sekhar Kammula garu, alongside longtime friends Kiran and Adivi Sesh. After 'Ranga Maarthaanda', I was hunting for a subject that possessed raw cultural depth. That was when director Santhosh narrated this story centered on Goddess Varahi.

The premise struck an immediate emotional chord. Our production house is named 'Rajasheyamala Entertainments'—which itself honors the divine mother—so bringing Varahi Ammavaru’s power to celluloid felt predestined. Producer Laxman garu, who has stood by me since our previous film, watched the initial footage and immediately joined hands."*

One Hour of High-End VFX & Historic Forts

Madhu dismissed notions that devotional thrillers rely purely on green-screen stages, emphasizing real-world textures:

  • Shot in Historic Terrains: Rather than relying entirely on indoor studio lots, the crew filmed across Ramachandrapuram Fort, Muchintal, the rugged canyons of Gandikota, and scenic historical regions in Odisha. The sole constructed set was the sacred, architecturally intricate Sanctum Sanctorum (Garbhagudi) of the Goddess.
  • 60 Minutes of Seamless Visual Effects: "We have nearly one full hour of heavy VFX in the runtime. The post-production was executed at Annapurna Studios, ensuring that the CGI integrates naturally with physical lighting rather than appearing cartoonish. Paired with Anoop Rubens’ roaring score, the theatrical high will be palpable."

A Devotional Brahmanandam & A Fiery Siddu Cameo

The producer shed light on unique casting choices that defy audience expectations:

  • Brahmanandam Like Never Before: "Audiences are accustomed to seeing Brahmanandam garu evoke nonstop laughter. In 'Mahendragiri Varahi', you will see him in a completely serious, deeply devotional character. It is an unexplored shade in his legendary career."
  • Aishwarya's Divine Presence & Siddu's Impact: "Aishwarya Rajesh’s portrayal carrying the divine presence of the Goddess is going to leave people spellbound. Siddu Jonnalagadda, who has been a dear friend for years, loved the gravity of his role and stepped in. His scene with Sumanth is a sheer dramatic explosion."

"We Refused Theatrical Bids to Self-Release Across 900 Screens"

Backing content over cautious exit strategies, the producers have taken the distribution reins into their own hands:

  • OTT Pre-Release Triumph: Digital streaming deals were fully closed right after the teaser dropped, providing substantial financial safety.
  • 900-Screen Worldwide Release: "While numerous distributors approached us after the trailer went viral, our belief in the product was so absolute that we chose to self-release worldwide across roughly 900 screens. Dil Raju garu’s brother, Sirish garu, watched the double positive edit a month ago and gave us top marks."
  • Spiritual Outreach in 150 Theatres: In a creative promotional campaign, the team has formally installed sanctified Varahi Ammavari idols in nearly 150 cinema lobbies across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. "Pawan Kalyan garu's Varahi Yatra and devotion brought massive public awareness to the Goddess. Viewers will watch this film with deep reverence and step out of theatres offering a namaskaram to the divine."

Hollywood Crossover in the Pipeline

Looking beyond September 11, Madhu Kalipu revealed that Rajasheyamala Entertainments is setting sights abroad:

  • Planning another collaboration with director Santhosh Jagarlapudi.
  • Partnering with an international Hollywood studio to co-produce a direct English and Telugu bilingual horror-thriller.
Mounted with grand scale and religious reverence, Mahendragiri Varahi arrives in theatres worldwide on Friday, September 11, 2026!
