A Wholesome Family Entertainer with a Twist: Director Veeru Vulavala Shares the Creative Journey Behind ‘Purushaha’

The upcoming family-centric male-oriented drama "Purushaha" is gearing up for a grand theatrical arrival on May 22, 2026. Presented by Bathula Saraswathi and produced by Bathula Koteswara Rao under the Kalyan Productions banner, the film marks the silver screen debut of lead hero Pavan Kalyan Bathula.

Ahead of its release, debutant director Veeru Vulavala interactive session with the media shed light on his artistic background, the origin of the script, and the strong ensemble comedy that anchors the project.

From Title Designer to Filmmaker: Veeru’s Evolution

Veeru Vulavala’s connection to cinema stems from his passion for the fine arts. Holding a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, he initially painted large cloth banners of movie stars displayed outside single screens. He later transitioned into title typography, famously designing the font for Kotha Bangaru Lokam. Over the years, he has meticulously conceptualized and written over 350 film titles for top league veterans, including Megastar Chiranjeevi and Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan.

Eager to direct, he honed his storytelling craft as an assistant director under Gautham Tinnanuri on the sets of critically acclaimed hits Malli Raava and Jersey, followed by a crucial stint in the direction department of the horror-thriller Masooda.

The Conception and Genre of 'Purushaha'

While working on Jersey, Veeru conceived the core thematic line of Purushaha, driven by the perspective: “Among all men, only a few are truly noble.”

  • A Male-Centric Approach: Observing an abundance of female-led narratives in recent times, the filmmaker consciously designed a script focused entirely on a man's emotional journey.

  • The Narrative Structure: While the foundational layer explores a pure, rustic love story between Govind (played by Pavan Kalyan) and Kamala (Rayancha Kokkura), the overarching script seamlessly incorporates elements of horror, action, and suspense to ensure comprehensive family appeal.

Stellar Comic Tracks and The "Window Episode"

The director emphasized that the film moves forward on a heavy dose of clean situation-driven humor.

  • The Supporting Cast: Seasoned comedians Sapthagiri and Kasireddy Raj Kumar lead the humor tracks, with Kasireddy's dialogue delivery expected to be a major highlight. The film also features memorable vignettes from VTV Ganesh, lyricist Anantha Sriram, and Vennela Kishore.

  • The Multiplex Highlight: Veeru singled out an aggressively funny sequence featuring Vennela Kishore positioned by a window. Labeled the “window episode,” this specific theatrical sequence is being touted as one of the major entertainment highlights of the second half.

Rigorous Preparation and Technical Backbone

To ensure the debutant hero was fully equipped for the character's emotional graph, the team put Pavan Kalyan through intense acting training under legendary star-maker Satyanand in Vizag, followed by a dedicated two-month acting workshop overseen by the director.

The film was shot swiftly over a 51-day schedule, primarily across the scenic and natural landscapes of Kakinada. On the technical front, the movie relies heavily on the realistic visual framing of cinematographer Satheesh and a melodic six-song soundtrack alongside an evocative background score composed by music director Shravan.
