Naresh Agastya and Faria Abdullah lead the quirky dark comedy Gurram Paapireddy, a fresh concept unseen in Telugu cinema, produced by Venu Saddi, Amar Bura, and Jayakanth (Bobby), and presented by Dr. Sandhya Goli. Directed by Murali Manohar, the completed film targets a grand worldwide theatrical release on December 19. In a recent interview, Murali revealed the film's natural humor stems from clever-foolish clashes, where smart choices backfire and silly ones shine, capturing everyday craziness without forced laughs.
Murali, a Hyderabad native inspired by classics like Shiva and Naayakudu, pursued film studies in London and worked at Warner Bros before assisting Sampath Nandi in Tollywood since 2010. His debut Simbba faced delays, but producers trusted his vision for Gurram Paapireddy over routine commercial fare. Co-written with input from Poorna, the story ditched the initial title Paramapadasopanam for the lead character's name, emphasizing character-driven chaos over hero worship. Naresh fits seamlessly as the natural everyman Gurram Paapireddy, while Faria, post-Jathi Ratnalu and Mathu Vadalara 2, shines—even writing, singing, and choreographing a song.
Standouts include Brahmanandam bookending the narrative with improvised brilliance, Yogi Babu in a key role after a patient wait, and the catchy Paisa Dum Dum track by Krishna Saurabh, set in a fictional realm. Shot with complex robotic-arm cameras for dynamic scenes, the 2.5-hour runtime flies with scene-by-scene fun, undeterred by clashing with Avatar. Murali eyes future projects like a musical romance and horror thriller, prioritizing strong Telugu success before pan-India expansions.
