In the south cine circuits, the Tollywood circuit is the biggest when it comes to the number of movies being made and the budgets involved. From the last few years, Tollywood is overtaking Bollywood in terms of success rate and volume of films as well. However, there is a scope for improvement in the content department.
Speaking of content, it was always the Kollywood circuit which was known for its interesting storylines. However, after the invasion of OTTs, audiences discovered how Mollywood has some really sensational stuff and in a way they overtook Kollywood. While their dominance still continues, at a Pan India level, another industry seems to be grabbing attention.
It is the Sandalwood circuit. The Kannada industry was often overlooked for many years but there has been a sudden shift. With movies like 'KGF' 'Kantara' '777 Charlie' 'U Turn' coming in, a lot of attention has now gone towards the Kannada moviemakers and stories. With passing time, the Sandalwood folks are coming up with many more ambitious projects. If the success rate increases, Sandalwood might well become the next big thing in Indian cinema, of course after Tollywood.
