Prominent actor Vijay Deverakonda has publicly embraced anti-drug advocacy as a deep personal responsibility. His commitment was evident on Thursday as he participated as a distinguished guest in a significant awareness event organized by the Telangana state government, marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The event saw a strong turnout, including Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and fellow actor Ram Charan.
Speaking at the event, Vijay Deverakonda shared how his involvement evolved from a casual request to a profound realization. "I live in my own world and often don’t know much about what’s happening outside," he admitted. "While I was shooting in Visakhapatnam, a police officer asked me to give a video (statement) against drugs. I took part in that campaign."
He continued, "Later, I came to know that there's actually an International Day against Drugs, which surprised me. When I asked a few police officers, they explained more about it. After learning the details, I felt a strong need to create awareness among people about this addiction. That’s why I’m now taking up anti-drug campaigning as a personal responsibility."
Deverakonda passionately articulated the severe threat drugs pose to society. "You don’t need a war to destroy a country; getting its youth addicted to drugs is enough," he asserted. "Our country has a huge youth population, and that’s why some forces are trying to push drugs onto our youth. Once someone becomes addicted, it's very hard to recover."
He urged the youth to make responsible choices: "If any of your friends are addicted to drugs, stay away from them. In life, what truly matters is health, money, and respect. There’s no point in doing things that can’t give you these. We should live in a way that brings pride to our parents." His powerful words underscored the critical importance of remaining drug-free and actively promoting awareness to safeguard the nation’s future.
