Following a wave of criticism and the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) against him in Jaipur, renowned filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has issued a public apology for comments he made regarding the Brahmin community during a recent social media interaction. The FIR was registered at the Bajaj Nagar police station on Saturday night.

Addressing the growing controversy, Anurag Kashyap took to Instagram to offer a sincere apology. In his post, written in Hindi and translated below, he admitted to losing his composure in a moment of anger and using inappropriate language that inadvertently offended an entire community for whom he holds long-standing respect.

His Instagram post read: "In anger, while trying to respond to someone, I forgot my own limits. And in that moment, I ended up speaking ill of the entire Brahmin community. A community whose people have been a significant part of my life, and who continue to contribute greatly to it even today. Today, they are all hurt by me. My family is hurt. Many intellectuals I deeply respect are hurt by the way I expressed myself in anger. By saying such things, I ended up undermining my own words. I sincerely apologize from the bottom of my heart to this community — to whom I never intended to say such things. But in anger, I ended up responding to someone’s cheap comment with such a remark. I apologise to all my colleagues, friends, family members, and this community — not just for what I said, but also for the way I said it, and for using inappropriate language. Going forward, I will make sure never to respond in that manner. I will try to control my anger. And if I ever have to express something, I will use the right words to do so. I hope you will forgive me.”

According to Sub-Inspector Ram Kripal, the FIR was lodged based on a complaint filed by Anil Chaturvedi, a local resident of Barkat Nagar. The complaint alleged that Kashyap made derogatory remarks against Brahmins while engaging with a user on a social media platform. His comments quickly went viral, triggering widespread condemnation and backlash from various segments of society.

Kashyap's controversial remarks were reportedly made in the context of defending his upcoming biographical drama, "Phule," which centers on the lives of social reformers Jyotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule. The film has already faced scrutiny regarding its portrayal of caste dynamics, and Kashyap's online defense further amplified the ensuing controversy.

This public apology comes amidst escalating tensions and demands for accountability. While Kashyap has asserted that he never intended to cause harm or generalize about any community, the incident has reignited discussions surrounding the social responsibility of public figures, particularly those with significant online influence.

"Phule," Kashyap's upcoming film, remains under public scrutiny, and the potential impact of this controversy on its release and reception remains to be seen. Meanwhile, legal proceedings in Jaipur will determine the subsequent course of action concerning the FIR filed against the director.
