Zhao Jianbo, the inventor of the MUA, got inspired to create the device during the lockdown in China, which prevented him from meeting his long-distance girlfriend. The MUA is a physical device that utilizes motion sensors hidden in silicone lips to transmit kiss data between users. The machine appears like a mobile stand with protruding silicone lips and requires an app to be downloaded and connected to the device.

Siweifushe, the startup behind MUA, has sold over 3,000 units and received orders for 20,000. Priced at around $38 or ₹3,000, the MUA has received mixed reviews in the Chinese online space. Some users call it a "comforting pacifier," while others criticize it for lacking authenticity. Nonetheless, some believe that it can help bridge the distance gap in long-distance relationships.

The MUA's name is derived from the sound of kissing, and it is not the first remote kissing device in the market. A similar device was invented in Malaysia in 2016, which had an even more intriguing name. It's possible that partners may not want the MUA to be too convincing.
