 Unstoppable Review : Unbearable, insufferable!

'Unstoppable', featuring a contingent of comedians, was released in theatres today. Let's find out what is good and bad about the comedy entertainer in this review.

Plot:

Kohinoor Kalyan (VJ Sunny) and Jilani Ramdas (Saptagiri) run a YouTube channel named Unstoppable with their female friend (Aqsa Khan). They lose Rs 10 lakh overnight due to IPL betting. When they have to recover the money to placate their elders, they fall back on a wealthy friend named Honey Babu (Shakalaka Shankar), whose gaffe in a drunken state puts them in harm's way, thanks to the entry of a gangster named Gnanavel Raja (Vikramjit Virk), who deals in hawala and other crimes. At stake is 'maal' and Rs 500 Cr.

Performances:

VJ Sunny of Bigg Boss Telugu fame delivers a lackluster performance. He gets to do a sentimental scene in the climax and that's his only worthy scene. Comedy doesn't seem to be his cup of tea.

Saptagiri is at his usual self. Bittiri Satti and Posani Krishna Murali, respectively as a jobless traveller and an outraged cop, had so much potential spoiled by loudness. Raghu Babu, Raja Ravindra (as a local strongman named Tilakam), Prudhviraj (as a fake godman), Chammak Chandra and others are hardly funny.

Technical Departments:

The songs don't perform any palpable function. Each song comes across as a prop. The title track sounds good but, in the context of the narrative, it feels over-indulgent. Venumuralidhar V's cinematography is dragged down by poor production values. SB Uddhav's editing doesn't quite rise above its limitations. Even at 114 minutes, the film feels over-stretched.

Merits:

Some madcap characters.

A few oddball situations.

Demerits:

Absence of a coherent narrative.

The cheap track involving a gangster and his concubine.

Dull characterization of VJ Sunny's Kohinoor Kalyan, who was touted to be the male lead alongside Saptagiri's character. Both of them come across as lacking any uniqueness and specificity.

Dull production values. The music by Bheems Ceciroleo is limited to one good song. The BGM is listless.

Multiple references to tropes and props associated with liberal sexuality.

Weak deployment of the Hawala element, drugs and the disastrous treatment of the comedy of confusion.

Absolutely tasteless item song in the second half.

Boring bedroom comedy involving Chammak Chandra.

Consistently stupid portrayal of female characters.

Vox Verdict:

'Unstoppable' from director Diamond Ratnababu of 'Son Of India' fame tests your patience with its derivative, hammy comedy.

Rating: 1.5 / 5
