Trouble in Rajasthan Congress: Will government survive?

It is known that Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and his former deputy, Sachin Pilot, are rivals. They have quarreled quite openly for years now. Rajasthan is going to go to polls later this year. At a time when Rajasthan Congress has to become stronger, the opposite is happening. It is becoming weaker.

On Monday, Pilot held a meeting with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. The meeting was joined by Gehlot as well. What is more, PM candidate Rahul Gandhi, too, was present. The rivals and their bosses opting for a closed-door meeting is proof enough that something is brewing.

Earlier in the day, Gehlot said that the Congress party doesn't engage those who throw tantrums. "I haven’t seen people in Congress giving options to leaders to choose designations," he said, hitting out at Pilot's ambitions. He added that the Congress High Command is so strong that nobody would be placated just because they throw tantrums.

There is this speculation that BJP wants to see the government fall somehow. In any case, the saffron party is expected to sweep to power when elections are held in December this year. Rajasthan is a swing state where the incumbent is voted out every five years.
