"Kingston" will offer a different experience to the audience, like 'Baahubali' and 'Kantara' - Hero and Music Director GV Prakash Interview
Music director GV Prakash Kumar's latest film "Kingston" is set to release this Friday, March 7th, in Telugu and Tamil. The film marks his debut as a producer and hero. Produced under the banner of Parallel Universes Pictures in association with Zee Studios, the film is being distributed in Telugu by Ganga Entertainments' Maheswar Reddy. GV Prakash Kumar recently visited Hyderabad to promote the film and spoke to the Telugu media. Here are some excerpts from his interview:
On the release and his excitement:
GV Prakash Kumar expressed his excitement about "Kingston" and the nervousness that comes with every film release. He is particularly thrilled about bringing a unique concept to the Indian screen.
On producing and acting in "Kingston":
"I've been wanting to produce for a while now," shared GV Prakash Kumar. "When I heard the story of 'Kingston,' I loved it and decided to produce it in association with Zee Studios. This is a first-of-its-kind film in India, and we're planning to turn it into a franchise. We have stories ready for up to four parts."
On the story and genre of "Kingston":
"The film is set in a coastal village where no one ventures into the sea due to a curse," GV Prakash Kumar explained. "I play a fisherman who challenges the curse and goes into the sea, where he encounters unexpected dangers like zombies and spirits. It's India's first sea adventure thriller and will offer a very different experience to the audience."
On the challenges of underwater action sequences:
"I underwent four days of training for the underwater action sequences," revealed GV Prakash Kumar. "It was challenging to hold my breath and perform action underwater. Sometimes, they would ask for one more take, which was even more difficult."
On the physical demands of the role:
GV Prakash Kumar admitted that "Kingston" was physically the most demanding film he has done so far. He shared anecdotes about shooting action sequences on a wet ship, leading to injuries and the need for bandages.
On the technical challenges of making the film:
"This is a new kind of film in India," he said. "Renowned cinematographer Neerav Shah did a three-day test shoot, and then Gokul Benoy shot the entire film. We used miniature sets and had the camera on a separate boat while the artists were on another. Hollywood will be surprised to see how we made this film."
On working with Divya Bharti:
GV Prakash Kumar spoke about casting Divya Bharti as the female lead, mentioning that Zee Studios suggested her name as she would be a good pairing for him. He praised her action sequences and predicted a bright future for her after "Kingston."
On composing music for his own films:
"People say I give better music for other heroes' films than my own," GV Prakash Kumar joked. "But I compose based on the story. I don't do any special work for my own films. For 'Kingston,' I tried to create a new kind of sound, different from Hollywood fantasy sea films like 'Harry Potter' and 'Pirates of the Caribbean.'"
On balancing acting and music direction:
"I'm happy to be doing both," he shared. "I started as a hero with the Tamil remake of 'Prema Katha Chitram' titled 'Darling.' I've been doing films since then. I have a proper schedule and allocate time for both acting and music. Even if I miss a schedule, I have a plan B. I recently had two releases during Diwali, 'Lucky Bhaskar' in Telugu and 'Amaran' in Tamil, and both were well-received."
On producing films with other heroes:
GV Prakash Kumar expressed his willingness to produce films with other heroes if he finds good scripts. He is currently producing a film with director Selvaraghavan and has no rule about only producing films he stars in.
On working in Telugu films:
"I was offered a role in 'Dasara,' but the dates didn't work out," he revealed. "I'm ready to do a Telugu film if I get a good story."
On his personal life and time management:
GV Prakash Kumar shared that he has ample time for his personal life despite his busy schedule. He follows a disciplined routine and manages his time effectively.
On "Kingston" and its unique appeal:
"Baahubali' took the audience into a new world, and 'Kantara' took them into a spiritual world," GV Prakash Kumar explained. "'Kingston' will also take the audience into a new world. Hollywood directors and producers tell their stories, but through 'Kingston,' we are bringing the stories told by our grandmothers to the screen."
With its unique concept, thrilling action sequences, and talented team, "Kingston" promises to be an exciting cinematic experience.
