Viraj Reddy Cheelam is making his debut as a hero with the film "Guard," produced by Anu Productions. With the tagline "Revenge for Love," the film is set to release on February 28th. Mimi Leonard and Shilpa Balakrishnan are the female leads in this film directed by Jaga Peddi and produced by Anasuya Reddy. As part of the film's promotions, Viraj Reddy Cheelam interacted with the media and shared the following:
-
From Australia to Tollywood: "I am from Nizamabad and moved to Australia for higher studies, where I settled down. I have always been passionate about films and even attended acting school there. We shot the entire movie in Australia, as I was already based there. We started this project after the COVID-19 pandemic. Although we are a new team, we have all undergone acting training."
-
Telugu Story with an Australian Flavor: "Despite filming in Australia, the story is rooted in Telugu culture. The film captures the essence of Telugu sensibilities with an added Australian flavor. It portrays the life of a security guard in Australia, which is quite different from the life of a security guard here. In Australia, even a security guard might own a BMW."
-
A Multi-Genre Experience: "We have incorporated various elements into the film, including horror, action, comedy, and revenge. It can be primarily categorized as a horror-comedy and revenge drama. My character is not a typical hero; it has different shades and emotions that align with the story. I couldn't have asked for a better debut. People who have seen the teaser and trailer have appreciated it."
-
Investing in his Dream: "Along with 'Guard,' I have another movie in the works. I have known director Jaga for a while. We chose the horror genre because it has a wider appeal, even for newcomers. I have invested everything I earned into this film, and after this, I'll be starting from scratch again."
-
From Farm to Film: "My father is a farmer, which is why we had a farmer launch the film's teaser. The teaser and trailer launch events were a grand success, and both have received a good response. While the shooting took place entirely in Australia, the post-production work was done in India. The action sequences have a Chinese style, while the sound and music retain an Indian essence."
-
Eyeing a Wider Release: "Currently, we are releasing the film in Telugu. However, I have already prepared versions in other languages for potential OTT release. If the film receives positive feedback, we will consider releasing it in other languages if distributors show interest."
-
Self-Reliance and Passion: "Cinema is a business. I have already mentioned at events that even if no one supports my film, I will release it myself. I have come this far through my own efforts and passion. I will release the film myself if needed."
-
New Faces and Media Support: "We auditioned everyone for the film. The heroine, Mimi Leonard, is from Sri Lanka and speaks Tamil. She delivered her Telugu dialogues very well. Her character has different shades. As a team of newcomers, we need the support of the media."
Viraj Reddy Cheelam appears confident and passionate about his debut film, "Guard - Revenge for Love." With its unique blend of genres and a story that seems to resonate with Telugu audiences, the film has the potential to make a mark. Only time will tell if this newcomer can capture the hearts of the audience and establish himself in the competitive world of Telugu cinema.
