"Bachchala Malli" Director Subbu Mangadevi Spills the Beans on Allari Naresh's Quirky Character and the Film's Emotional Core
Director Subbu Mangadevi, known for the hit film Solo Brathuke So Better, sheds light on the upcoming Allari Naresh-starrer "Bachchala Malli" in a recent interview. Here's a glimpse into the conversation:
Q: How did the "Bachchala Malli" project come to life?
A: I initially narrated the story to my friend and producer, Rajesh Danda. He loved it and suggested I pitch it to Allari Naresh. Naresh was immediately on board and eager to start filming.
Q: Tell us about the hero's character.
A: He's someone whose foolishness knows no bounds! We all have a bit of foolishness in us, but his is amplified. In the teaser, we even showed him taking a charity box to establish just how far his foolishness goes. What he does with it will be a hilarious highlight in the film.
Q: There seem to be similarities between Bachchala Malli's look and Allu Arjun's Pushpa Raj. Was that intentional?
A: The comparison arises because both characters come from similar backgrounds. Pushpa was a coolie, while Bachchala Malli is a tractor driver. People in those professions tend to have a certain look. It's purely coincidental and not a deliberate imitation.
Q: Is the film based on a true story?
A: No, it's not. But the character of Bachchala Malli is inspired by a real person. He was a heroic figure in our village. We borrowed the character's vibe for the title, but the story is entirely fictional.
Q: Why did you choose a 90s backdrop for the film?
A: We wanted to tell an emotional story with a strong love story at its core. Today, with social media and instant communication, love stories have a different dynamic. The 90s had a different feel, a rawness in human interactions that I wanted to capture.
Q: What kind of challenges did you face during filming?
A: Shooting in live locations always presents challenges. We filmed mostly in and around Tuni. The biggest hurdle was preventing modern elements like mobile phones from appearing in the background. It required constant vigilance!
Q: Tell us about the supporting characters.
A: Amritha Aiyer's character is emotional and lovely, and it will stay with the audience. Rao Ramesh and Achyuth Kumar also have important roles that contribute significantly to the narrative.
Q: What are your thoughts on Vishal Chandrashekar's music?
A: I've been wanting to work with Vishal since Krishna Gaadi Veera Prema Gaadha. He's given us some amazing albums. The songs in "Bachchala Malli" are integral to the story and will resonate with the audience.
Q: What's next for you?
A: I have a storyline in mind that I'll focus on after this film's release.
"Bachchala Malli" promises to be a unique and entertaining film that blends humor and emotion with a compelling character-driven narrative. With its talented cast and crew, the film is poised to be another success for Subbu Mangadevi.
