'Kalki 2898 AD', which recently grossed Rs 1,000 crore at the box office, will stream from September 6 on two OTT platforms. Amazon Prime Video will stream it in southern Indian languages, while Netflix will stream it in Hindi.
Why so late? The makers don't want the film to lose out on its crowd-pulling abilities in theatres. The dystopian epic sci-fi action entertainer is doing well at the box office. If the movie is released after the completion of the 4-week window, the collections would be affected.
Recently, the Prabhas-Nag Ashwin movie successfully trumped Shah Rukh Khan's 'Pathaan' in North America to reach the all-time No. 2 status with collections crossing USD 17.5 million in 17 days. Within India, it is the 5th highest grosser, the first four being 'Baahubali 2', 'KGF 2', 'RRR' and 'Jawan'.
The success of the film, which also features Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, and Kamal Haasan, has solidified the second part. 'Kalki 2' will go on floors once writer-director Nag Ashwin fine-tunes the script. Some portions meant for the second part were shot alongside the first part.
